Goodyear counted 95,294 people at the 2020 census, and the state’s July 2024 estimate already puts it near 117,000. This is a city that was cotton fields a century ago, founded in 1917 to grow tire cord for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, and it has repeatedly ranked among the fastest-growing cities in the country. Growth like that brings jobs, spring training crowds at Goodyear Ballpark, and thousands of men who moved here for a fresh start and brought an old problem with them.

The county backdrop is heavy. Fentanyl showed up in 59 percent of Maricopa County’s fatal overdoses in 2024, and county health tracked more than 5,000 overdoses across 2025. Statewide, Arizona logged 2,034 provisional overdose deaths from January through August 2025, up 20 percent year over year, alongside 5,520 alcohol-related crashes that killed 347 people in 2024.

Those are county and state figures, not a verdict on one suburb. But Goodyear men are inside every one of them, and the growth curve means more of them every year.

Men in early recovery need more than meetings. The campus gives a man places to burn energy, places to think, and a room he does not dread returning to, because a body that is getting stronger makes the clinical work stick.

The family usually knows before the man does. In a city as polished as Goodyear, it is tempting to keep the problem behind the front door and hope it corrects itself. It will not.
