The leadership team at Into Action Recovery brings together experienced professionals in addiction treatment, clinical therapy, program development, and long-term recovery mentorship. Guided by Founder Chris Burwash, the program is supported by licensed clinicians, addiction medicine professionals, and experienced program leaders who help ensure every man entering treatment receives structured guidance, accountability, and clinical support. Their combined experience helps maintain the disciplined environment and recovery standards that define the Into Action approach to helping men build lasting sobriety.

Chris Burwash | CEO & Founder

Chris Burwash is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Into Action Recovery and a man in long-term recovery with more than two decades of experience working in addiction treatment for men. His personal journey and professional work have been dedicated to helping men break free from addiction and rebuild stable, meaningful lives.

Motivated by his own recovery and years of working with men struggling with substance use disorders, Chris founded Into Action Recovery to provide a structured, accountable environment where men can develop discipline, responsibility, and brotherhood in recovery. His vision centers on creating a program where men are supported not only through sobriety, but through rebuilding their character, relationships, and purpose.

Under Chris’s leadership, Into Action Recovery has helped thousands of men begin the recovery process and build strong foundations for lasting sobriety. He remains closely involved in the mission of the program, working alongside the clinical team to ensure every man who enters treatment is supported with structure, accountability, and a clear path forward in recovery.

Paul Flatley, DO | Medical Director

Board-Certified in Emergency Medicine & Addiction Medicine

Dr. Paul G. Flatley, DO, is a board-certified physician in both Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine with decades of clinical experience treating acute medical conditions and substance-related emergencies. After earning his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine at Midwestern University, he completed residency training in Emergency Medicine following a transitional internship at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Dr. Flatley has practiced emergency medicine in Arizona for many years and previously served in leadership roles within Scottsdale Healthcare, including Medical Director and Department Chair, where he oversaw clinical operations and physician teams. During his time in the emergency department, he treated countless overdose and addiction-related emergencies, gaining firsthand insight into the devastating impact of substance use disorders.

Motivated by those experiences, Dr. Flatley expanded his work into addiction medicine and founded Direct2Recovery, a practice focused on helping individuals overcome substance dependence through evidence-based medical care, including medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder. He is also the founder of Direct2MD, a telemedicine platform designed to improve access to physician care through virtual medical services.

In addition to his clinical work in addiction treatment, Dr. Flatley has worked with major healthcare institutions in Arizona including Midwestern University, Maricopa Medical Center, and HonorHealth, contributing his expertise in emergency and addiction medicine. Through his work in both hospital and outpatient settings, he continues to focus on expanding access to medical treatment for individuals seeking recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Tara Harvell, LPC, BHP | Clinical Director

Tara Harvell, LPC, is a Licensed Professional Counselor and Clinical Director with extensive experience treating individuals with substance use disorders and trauma-related conditions. She specializes in the intersection of addiction and trauma recovery and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), an evidence-based therapy used to help individuals process traumatic experiences that often contribute to substance use and mental health challenges.

As an Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE) approved Clinical Supervisor, Tara provides supervision and mentorship to licensed associate counselors and developing clinicians while maintaining high clinical standards across treatment programs. Her leadership role includes overseeing clinical operations and ensuring treatment teams deliver structured, evidence-based care that supports long-term recovery.

In addition to her clinical leadership responsibilities, Tara owns and oversees multiple behavioral health treatment programs in Arizona, where she helps guide program development, clinical quality, and trauma-informed treatment practices. Her work focuses on building strong clinical teams and creating treatment environments where individuals struggling with addiction and co-occurring mental health disorders can safely begin the process of healing.

Through her experience as a therapist, clinical supervisor, and program leader, Tara remains deeply committed to advancing ethical, trauma-informed addiction treatment and helping individuals rebuild their lives in recovery.

David Cummings | Program Director

David Cummings serves as Program Director at Into Action Recovery, where he oversees daily operations and helps maintain the structure and accountability that support men throughout the recovery process. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and brings more than 12 years of experience working in addiction treatment, including four years in leadership roles focused on program development and operational systems within recovery programs.

David is a Certified Peer Support Specialist and Certified Health Coach with extensive experience developing peer support training, staff training initiatives, and operational frameworks that help treatment teams deliver consistent, high-quality care. His work focuses on creating systems that support both clinical staff and clients, ensuring that men in recovery experience clear expectations, disciplined structure, and a stable environment where lasting change can take place.

As Program Director, David works closely with clinical leadership and recovery staff to guide daily programming, staff coordination, and the structured routines that define the Into Action Recovery approach. His leadership emphasizes accountability, consistency, and the practical systems that allow recovery communities to function effectively while helping men rebuild responsibility and purpose.

Outside of his professional role, David remains actively involved in the recovery community through service and mentorship. He is passionate about helping others pursue long-term recovery and enjoys cycling, fitness, and spending time with his wife while continuing to support men working to rebuild their lives in sobriety.
